Twitter Checklist
Have a plan.
What is your objective for using Twitter?
Is it for marketing or branding purposes?
Are you going to post product details and offers?
Or is it exclusively for receiving and providing feedback?
If you don’t have a strategic Twitter plan, let your main objective (marketing or branding) be the focus of your tweets.
Be open, but not too much. It’s okay to tweet about your business life, as this helps you to create a connection with your followers. But do not deviate too much from your focus. If you want to give blow-by-blow details of your personal life, open a personal account.
Whatever you do, always reply to a direct message. Do not underestimate the power of tweets. One negative tweet from an unhappy customer could cost your business its reputation. Protect your brand by addressing complaints promptly. Your business Twitter account is as important as your customer service department.
Allot at least fifteen minutes a day for tweeting. Keep your account active, and engage followers by tweeting regularly, whether it’s replying to other tweets, scheduling tweets, or following new followers. Try using a mobile Twitter app on your cell phone to keep up.
Stay focused and be strategic. To stay on task, comment only on topics related to your business or that may interest your customers. Comment when you have something useful to add. Become a thought leader in your field, and you will steadily earn more followers.
